Ephesus is considered as one of the great outdoor museums of Turkey. It was built in the 10th century BC by Attic and Ionian Greek colonists. The city was famed for the nearby Temple of Artemis), one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. The house of Virgin Mary is also located ahead of Ephesus. The shrine of Virgin Mary enjoys a marvelous atmosphere hidden in the green, visited by the Pope twice. Every year, on August 15th a ceremony is organized to commemorate Mary’s Assumption.
